Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects Grant Contract Inauguration Ceremony
On Tuesday, 2nd May 2017, Her Excellency Kae Yanagisawa, Ambassador of Japan to Malawi celebrated the inauguration of the project for construction of girls' hostel at Kafukule Community Day Secondary School. The ceremony was graced by Hon. Dr. Emmanuel Fabiano, Minister of Education, Science and Technology, and cerebrated by the other related stakeholders.
When women are educated, they are expected to play a leading role in raising their children by guiding them on how to live and establish themselves in the society. These women also become role models for the girl children and even other women. Therefore, ensuring that girls stay in school and complete secondary education by improving their learning environment is crucial. At Kafukule CDSS, more than 200 girls are enrolled for their secondary education every year. Due to inadequate boarding facilities, most girls had to walk long distances to school or live in self boarding facilities that are not well secured. In order to improve the situation, the Government of Japan provided to Kafukule Community Day Secondary School with a grant amounting to USD165, 944 under the Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects to facilitate the construction of a twin girls’ hostel to accommodate 176 girls at Kafukule Community Day Secondary School.
Speaking during the ceremony, Her Excellency Kae Yanagisawa expressed her appreciation to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and to the school itself, for contributing some budget to complete the project. She commended the collective efforts from all stakeholders including the community people which led to the completion of the project. She also kindly appealed to all the girls, even the boys, the school management and the community to take very good care of the hostels so that they remain in good condition and be used by many more girls in generations to come.
