As the Embassy of Japan commemorated its second anniversary of its opening in Malawi, it organised a karate demonstration which was done by Professional Karate experts who came all the way from Japan. The function was also organised as one way of exchanging cultural values between the two countries, Malawi and Japan. Karate is a famous Japanese traditional martial art that instills self-discipline and also teaches self-defence.

The demonstration was performed at Kamuzu Institute of Sports as the first occasion. The event was graced by the Hon. Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr Sangala, His Excellency the then Ambassador of Japan Mr Motoyoshi Noro and his wife, other ministers and diplomats from different organizations. The Kamuzu Institute of Sports was filled to its fullest capacity as people of all ages gathered to see the Japanese Karate experts’ demonstration.

The then Ambassador of Japan H.E. Noro also visited Bunda College of Agriculture with the four Japanese delegates for the same activity. In His speech to the students and staff of Bunda College, Ambassador Noro said that he chose Bunda College for the demonstration because of the excellent cooperation and relationship that exist between the college and the government of Japan.
The Karate demonstration attracted a lot of students (approximately 300), the staff and even interested people from outside the campus who wished the demonstration could have taken a bit longer.
