Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects
Handover Ceremony for
20th October 2015
On 20th October 2015, His Excellency Shuichiro Nishioka, the Ambassador of Japan to Malawi handed over newly constructed infrastructure and medical equipment for selected Health Centres in Ntchisi District. Honourable. Dr. Peter Kumpalume, M.P., the Minister of Health, received the facilities on behalf of the government of Malawi.
In most Health Centres in Ntchisi District, access to maternal healthcare services is undermined by lack of infrastructure to accommodate expectant mothers, inadequate medical equipment and lack of amenities like water and electricity. The situation is more compounded with long distances to the health centres.
In order to improve the environment for delivering the maternity healthcare services, the Government of Japan provided a grant amounting to USD1.8 million (about MK722 million) to World Vision Japan to implement the project for improving health facilities in Ntchisi district. The project was implemented in collaboration with World Vision Malawi.
The project has facilitated the construction of two maternity wings and four guardian shelters. The water point facilities and solar electricity systems have been installed. The project has also facilitated the procurement of medical equipment like beds, mattresses, stretchers and machines required for monitoring expectant women.
