THE FIRST JAPANESE AMBASSADOR’S JUDO CHAMPIONSHIP

On Saturday, 12th July 2014, His Excellency Shuichiro Nishioka, the Ambassador of Japan to Malawi presided over the ‘Japanese Ambassador Judo Championships’ for the junior athletes’, atournament organised by Judo Association of Malawi in Lilongwe with support from Embassy of Japan in Malawi.Bearing in mind that Tokyo will be hosting the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics games, Japan is ever more committed to promoting the power of sport to inspire dreams, hopes and aspirations and also to strengthen bonds between people. It is with this background that Ambassador of Japan to Malawi, Mr. Shuichiro Nishioka took an initiative in supporting the Judo Association of Malawi which organized the first-ever ‘Japanese Ambassador Championship’ for Junior Judo players with support from Embassy of Japan in Malawi.  

 

Speaking during the event, Ambassador Nishioka congratulated the winners by presenting them with medals and also commended all the participants and Judo Association of Malawi for organizing the event. He said that, Judo is a sport that has a strong historical background in Japan and it entails the skills, knowledge and values harnessed in Japan. In closing, the Ambassador expressed his gratitude for being part of the tournament and indicated that his wish is to promote the young athletes and to see many of these athletes competing in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
